Former two-time champion Fionnuala McCormack features on the Irish team for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Brussels on 10 December.
McCormack, who won senior gold in 2011 and 2012, will be making her 18th appearance to extend her record for most appearances by a female athlete at these championships. The outright record for most appearances is held by Ukraine’s Serhiy Lebid who competed in 19 editions between 1994-2013.
The senior women’s team also features twins Eilish and Roisin Flanagan and Mary Mulhare – all of whom were part of the bronze medal-winning team last year – along with recently crowned Irish cross country champion Fiona Everard.
After just missing out on a gold medal in a sprint finish in the U20 race last year, Nick Griggs will be looking to cap his stellar junior career in style while last year’s U20 bronze medallist Dean Casey graduates into the U23 ranks.
The senior men’s team includes Irish 5000m record-holder Brian Fay as well as the newly crowned Irish cross country champion Cormac Dalton and Keelan Kilrehill, the second counter of their bronze medal-winning team in the U23 race last year.
Ireland won a record five medals at the 2022 SPAR European Cross Country Championships which were held in La Mandria Park in Turin last December.
